Content

1. Project Background: The project aimed to repurpose the old, disused intake channel by using local stone materials and integrating the natural terrain to create a diverse ecological environment. Based on recommendations from scholars and experts, the project preserved a valuable geological fault for both research and educational purposes. This transformation of the water conservation park added natural ecological and geological educational functions, aligning with the principle of harmonious coexistence between life, production, and ecology.

2. Construction Location: Taitung City, Taitung County.

3. Total Project Cost: NT$6,865,000.

4. Construction Period: From September 13, 2006, to December 26, 2006, with a total duration of 105 calendar days.

5. Project Details: One wooden scenic walkway, one scenic viewing terrace, one connecting road, renovation and maintenance of the park area, and other related works.

Innovation, challenges and extendibility of the construction

1. The disused intake channel was transformed into a vibrant ecological pool.

2. Discarded utility poles and driftwood were used to create a wooden scenic walkway incorporating indigenous cultural elements.

3. Local stones were used to construct a porous ecological environment and space.

4. The old intake channel was repurposed to serve as a refuge for aquatic life during periods of water scarcity.

5. The facilities were harmonized with the surrounding environment, softening and beautifying what was previously a harsh and cluttered area.

6. The project incorporated the area's unique geological features to create Taiwan’s one and only geological and ecological education park managed by the irrigation associations.

7. The park's roads were renovated and widened, making it easier for visitors to explore the area.

8. The areas were clearly demarcated, and the layout of visitor paths and facility maintenance was well organized.

9. Safety facilities were well planned and are being gradually implemented.

10 .After completion, the Taitung City Office and Yanwan Community jointly assume responsibility for the park's ongoing maintenance.


Excellent performance and significant benefits of the construction

1. The park provides a unique opportunity to observe the Liji Badlands and Beinan Conglomerate up close.

2. By connecting with nearby attractions such as the National Museum of Prehistory and Beinan Cultural Park, the project created an eco-education park that combines fun with learning.

3. The preservation of valuable geological fault samples ensures that the park not only serves recreational and ecological purposes but also offers opportunities for geological research and education.

4. The Water Conservation Park has become a highly popular attraction near Taitung City, offering quality recreational space for both citizens and tourists.

5. The park has seen a surge in visitors, with annual attendance now topping 200,000. This influx has organically fostered greater public appreciation and understanding of the government's dedicated efforts to promote the ecology, production, and life functions of leisure agriculture.
