  • Construction period:
    2005-10-09~2005-12-28
Content

1. Project Background: During dry seasons, the Shemagan Canal requires the diversion of all water from the Lijia River for irrigation purposes. This practice leads to the interruption of the river's flow, significantly impacting the native fish species and surrounding ecosystem. Driven by the concept of "ecological conservation," this project aimed to construct an ecological pool to serve as a refuge for fish during periods of drought or heavy rainfall. The project also involved improving the surrounding environment to provide habitats for fish species and birds along the Lijia River, supporting their survival and reproduction.

2. Construction Location: Taitung City, Taitung County.

3. Total Project Cost: NT$2,620,000.

4. Construction Period: From October 9, 2005, to December 28, 2005, with a total duration of 90 calendar days.

5. Project Details:

  • Construction of one ecological pool.
  • Installation of one wooden pavilion.
  • Landscaping and greening of the surrounding area.

Innovation, challenges and extendibility of the construction

1. The revetment around the ecological pool was constructed using large on-site stones, stacked to create a porous habitat for wildlife. The pool's base utilized the unique impermeable clay soil found in Taitung's Liji area. This method successfully retains water in the gravel soil layer without concrete, meeting natural environmental requirements. It allows the aquatic ecosystem of the nearby Lijia River to continue thriving and provides a space for habitat conservation.

2. Integration with the natural landscape transformed a barren plot of land into a lush, green park filled with flowers and plants. The design leveraged the area's rich ecological features and expansive views, creating a scenic recreational area that harmonizes with the surrounding mountains and rivers.
