The irrigation area is located in the plain area between the Taiping River and Lijia River basins in eastern Taiwan, and belongs to Taitung City and Beinan Township in Taitung County.

Water resources utilization
At the first section of the main canal along Beinanshang Canal, there are 19 consecutive hydraulic drop structures near Dongcheng Village, Beinan Township. The total drop is about 50m. Currently, private power plants use this drop and the irrigation flow to generate hydropower. After power generation, tail water is discharged and returns to Beinanshang Canal, thereby not adversely affecting the original water supply in downstream irrigation areas.
